“The Responsibility of Every Canadian” is a proposed print package created for new immigrants and newcomers to Canada. Designed to provide a more accurate and meaningful understanding of the residential school system and its ongoing impacts, the piece bridges the gap between immigrant experiences and Indigenous history.

By weaving together statistics, historical context, and lived experiences, it encourages critical reflection on Canada's colonial legacy. Through clear, accessible design and familiar language, this resource functions as both a guide and a call to action—empowering newcomers to engage with the truth, take part in reconciliation, and understand their role in shaping a more informed and compassionate Canada.

This piece serves as a potential response to Call to Action 93 from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, which states:

“We call upon the federal government, in collaboration with the national Aboriginal organizations, to revise the information kit for newcomers to Canada and its citizenship test to reflect a more inclusive history of the diverse Aboriginal peoples of Canada, including information about the Treaties and the history of residential schools.”

By reimagining how this history is shared with newcomers, the project offers a more inclusive and truthful foundation for understanding Canada.
